“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message” (John 17: 20 NIV)
There is a strong confidence in this verse. The night before his crucifixion, Jesus prayed for me, for you, and for all his sheep of all generations. Jesus knew that whole families, women and men would turn to Him through all generations. He had no doubt about the relevance of his sacrifice. Did he questioned his mission, “Will my death on the cross have any effect, will people change their lives?” No, no! Jesus was filled with a powerful confidence. That night, it was as if he saw every human face that would be born on this earth. He prayed for each of these people.
Father, you have heard and answered the prayer of your son Jesus. My salvation is one of the fruits of this prayer. I know that this prayer will be followed by effects in the lives of the members of my family; of the inhabitants of my city and my country. Like Jesus, I trust in your answer.
